Joshua Slocum is exactly the sort of person you want to sit down and have a drink with. He is humble, hilarious, and full of great stories. Considering this is a book about navigation, it is remarkably understandable and intriguing. I would highly recommend this one to teenage boys who like adventure and any adult who loves a good, true, seafaring story. Well worth the time.
(Though I enjoyed this as an audio book, I think it might have been easier to physically read it, as I could have used a map or picture of the boat)

A very interesting read, but it would’ve been easier to understand if the glossary of nautical terms was placed at the beginning of the book instead of at the end. However, it was still very entertaining.
"To face the elements is, to be sure, no light matter when the sea is in it's grandest mood. You must then know the sea, and know that you know it, and not forget that it was made to be sailed over."
A memoir of a voyage, the peoples and characters Joshua meets across the globe.
From Samoa to Coco Keeling islands, Brazil, Australia and South Africa.
Joshua keeps his humour throughout the journey.

Really unbelievable tale, and one told by an author equally skilled as sailor and storyteller. Funny and inspirational in turns, but always interesting.

No one should ever set sail without reading this book.
This really was an excellent little book that kept my interest all the way through. Perhaps he was a little crazy, but he and his little ship did it and the story of his quiet determination is a very excellent read.
Slocum's memoir records his journey as the world's first solo circumnavigator in a sea-faring vessel. At a time when industrialization was replacing the Age of Sail, his wry and sometimes prideful account is refreshing and unique.
