This is one of the next young reader books I’ve read in a while. I wish I had this type of book to read when I was in middle school because it’s such a fun book about learning to love yourself and that everyone is just a bit different! I loved all the characters, the mystery was good, and writing was fun without being too lighthearted.

Great ideas with a just okay execution! Super fun and creative concept but the writing fell short a lot of the time - would’ve loved to see more bonding and character exploration, a better establishment of how realistic/not realistic the book wanted to be, better resolution with her parents, etc.

This was really fun! Cindy Kay, the narrator for the audio, does an amazing job keeping it exciting and Yee's writing kept me engaged.

I think this book is a funny and interesting mystery/ adventure story for kids. I do think it took some odd turns at the end that got confusing though. Overall, this is a good start to a new series, and I will be interested to see where the Misfits go next. This book feels like Spy Kids meets Lemony Snicket. But, it actually features a diverse cast, including BIPOC characters. This book is also written and illustrated by two very well know API children's writers. It's an already great combo.
