This book 🥹 It made me sob. The love story was poignant. The characters endearing and I couldn't help but cheer for every version of Juliet even though I knew how it ended. The ending kept me on my toes, I truly didn't know what would happen. I knew about half way that if the ending was solid it would be a 5/5 for me and I was right!

if it wasn't for the uncomfortable age differences, i could argue for this to be 5 stars because of the cool idea and the way
the different reincarnations of characters
are written and established.

Juliet LaCompte is a 16 year old girl in France who falls in love with Auguste Marchant, a painter. They start a secret relationship while she poses for his paintings. When her mother learns about their relationship, she curses Auguste. However, the curse goes wrong and it binds Juliet to live out a failed relationship with Auguste for each lifetime. The demon that powers Juliet's curse, Luke, has fallen in love with Juliet and must see her make the same mistakes with Auguste each lifetime. Luke has to wait for Juliet to remember their shared past before time runs out. The reader sees the reincarnated Juliet and Auguste live out their tragic love story in Hollywood in the 1930s, Los Angeles and Taos in the 1970s, and Washington, DC. in 2012. Juliet attempts to remove the curse before time runs out.

Sayers does a great job of creating memorable characters and threading the different reincarnations of Juliet together. I thought the ending of the book was satisfying. I enjoyed the way Sayers wrote about music and painting. It reminded me of the way Patrick Rothfuss described music in The Name of the Wind. Fans of The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue will enjoy this book. A Witch in Time would be a good book for a book discussion.

At first, it started strong, Helen’s first two lives are very interesting, but by the third time around, I was bored. I think the book would have benefitted by cutting the third life out entirely. A Witch in Time is also much darker than I was anticipating, so be wary if you’re squeamish or don’t like contemporary violence.

I definitely think it’s worth a read and it’s such a super interesting concept of living multiple lives as a witch. It brings up many different themes and I really think the book is super clever and the author treats the readers as very respectable smart people. I highly recommend reading it if you have interest in which is a reincarnation. I’m only semi interested in both which is why it’s not five stars but it was still really fantastic and kept me engaged in reading
