Oh, I just loved this one! Why did I take so long to read it? I loved that it was slow burn, that Hank and Elliot got to know each other first. It seems that in most romance these days, it's either fuck first and talk later, or the burn is SOOO slow, it feels like my tablet might spontaneously combust from all the UST. This story got it just right, and ended up hitting me right in the feels.

I have to say that this was my favorite story from Renae Kaye thus far, and it doesn't hurt that I also thought it was the smexiest of her works as well.

Both Elliot and Hank are starkly lonely in the small rural town in which they live. Once they know each other's secret, they forge a friendship and then an intimate relationship while trying to keep their own growing feelings for each other under wraps. This was definitely fun, flirty, playful and hot. This had great sexual tension, and it was sweetly realistic witnessing Hank navigate the ins and outs of his first relationship ever.

There was also some pointed angst and topical concerns regarding small town homophobia. These guys' situation of being forced to hide their sexuality due to fear of losing their friends and livelihood was a bit heart breaking. There was also a vulnerability to Hank as he believes he couldn't possibly hold Elliot's interest to keep him from going back to the city once his loan obligation was fulfilled.

So again Renae Kaye does great with tender angst and mixing it with a lot of humor and warmth. These two MC's didn't have a bad bone in their body and it was wonderful watching the natural progression of them falling for each other. Overall a fantastic, feel good, smexy read!

Hank is such a great character - not smart, but still thoughtful, provincial but aware of it. Loved that the novel was all in his POV. The evolution of his and Eliot’s relationship from simple physicality to a deeper connection is really lovely, against the backdrop of real and imagined homophobia.. loved the setting and learning about sheep shearing.

I enjoyed the narrator (and the fact he had an Australian accent). I enjoyed the sheep shearing although Hank's fishing metaphor seemed out of place in the northern farming location. The romance was slow but good and I liked the ending.

Well.. now I know a lot about sheep, probably more than I wanted to. It was a really sweet story and I love Renae Kaye but in this book there were way to much about sheep and not enough about Hank and Elliot. I was a little disappointed because of the good reviews but there were good bits so I’m giving it 3 stars.

3.5 stars. A nice story with lovely characters. It tapered off during the end though and i would have liked to have been shown a clearer picture of Elliot. Hank's character felt more developed. I also felt things were too easily resolved between Hank and his father. Bonus points for the supportive people in their lives though especially uncle Murray, Neil and Middy.

This was better than I thought it was going to be. I enjoyed this very low drama, sweet story set in a charming Australian small town. Entertaining, uncomplicated, angst-free ... I did like this ...

This is my own fault for picking up a M/M romance like this.
