This book was just so good. So eye opening. I’m sure I’ll write a more cohesive review, but I have so many annotations in this book and it’s so good. Oh Machado, your writing style has influenced me.

I didn’t realize this was all about being LGBTQ or whatever. Not my thing.
So good I bought the physical copy halfway through the audio book.
I realised about halfway through that I've read some of her work before in the "it came from the closet" anthology - and hers was my favourite essay from that book by miles. The essay-like parts of this have all that same juice; basic concepts explained and extrapolated in ways that are actually quite groundbreaking alongside tricky pieces of discourse that suddenly come up clear as crystal under her treatment.
On top of that the narrative elements are just so goddamn good. It's sexy when it's sexy and it's heartbreaking when it's heartbreaking. Genuinely scary, genuinely funny.
And girl, I only read the paratext when the author is this clever. You best believe I was eating up the acknowledgements with a spoon.
