A necessary read and a beautiful way for it to have been written.

What I liked:
-OMG this was so hauntingly beautiful. Maybe this is because I recently rewatched the Haunting of Bly Manor, but it reminded me of that–the sapphic relationship, the idea that we can be haunted by our past and past selves, that abusive relationships don’t have to exclusively look like physical abuse and can just involve wanting to control (aka possess, as shown in the show) another person, the metaphor of a house and its history representing different relationships.
-This is definitely the kind of book that I would reread again and I know I would get something different out of it anytime. Especially as someone who’s been in an emotionally abusive relationship, I really related to a lot of the book.
-The stream-of-consciousness/self-contained chapters with their own themes was really interesting, and I especially liked some of the really creative chapters like the choose your own adventure one where you end up in an infinite loop regardless of which option you choose.
-Reading this definitely made me rethink some of my own biases around queer relationships. I appreciated her nuanced look at abuse in queer relationships.

What I disliked: honestly nothing. Not a book I would have picked up on my own, but I’m glad my friend recommended it!

This is a testament to the power of a memoir. I'm going to spend days wrapping my head around this-- in one hand I want to leap to analyze this as piece of literary craft work, in the other I am reeling from the emotional impact.
