I honestly don't know what to say. I'm lost for words. I deeply enjoyed a book that keep me entertained and engaged from cover to cover but that ending š³ š
šš¾. I guess I'm going to just have to have to wait till book three š šššš. No but for real, the author for this series take us on journey and show us how in story telling so myths have pices of truth in story. I love that aspect in the first book and second book we got to see it expanded on. The flow and ebb of this book is just perfect that when reach our ending I'm heartbroken that the author set up just like last timešš¾šš¤£šš¤£šš¤£
Thank you to Edelweiss for the chance to read and review this titleāI've been eagerly awaiting this one since finishing The Stardust Thief!
This series has had me hooked from the start, and The Ashfire King was such a rewarding continuation. Chelsea Abdullah has a real gift for weaving Arabic folklore and storytelling into a world that feels both epic and intimate. I absolutely love how the lore of the djinn is expanded hereāit gives so much depth to the universe, especially as we learn more about their history and the power struggles that shape their realm.
The story picks up right where we left off, with Loulie, Mazen, and Aisha stuck in the djinn world, which is more dangerous and divided than ever. From start to finish, this book is a bit of a rollercoasterāthere are so many twists, high-stakes conflicts, and moments of emotional intensity that I just couldnāt put it down. It also dives a little deeper into each characterās journey, particularly Aisha, who really shone for me in this instalment. Her arc felt layered and compelling, and I found myself drawn to her chapters the most.
The worldbuilding continues to be one of my favourite parts of the series. Thereās this wonderful balance of vibrant magic and grounded cultureāit never feels overwhelming, but you still get the sense that the world is vast, complex, and beautifully imagined. Itās honestly one of the few fantasy settings I can clearly picture, and Iād love to see it come to life on screen one day.
If Iām being honest, I did miss Qadirās presence a bitāheās such a central figure in the first book, so it felt like something was missing without him having more of a role here. And while I enjoyed seeing more of Mazen, his storyline wasnāt as strong for me as the others. That said, the pacing, the rich lore, and the high emotional stakes more than made up for it.
This definitely feels like a middle book in the best wayālaying the groundwork for an explosive finale while still delivering a satisfying and adventurous story of its own. I cannot wait to see how this trilogy wraps up!
