Surprisingly cozy. Much spicier than I anticipated. A good mystery plot. Interesting world and characters. T. Kingfisher constantly surprises me with her breadth and variety. 

I might have rated it higher if it weren't for the "we kissed but now I'm panicking and screwing everything up" trope.

A sweet romance between a broken paladin and a self-conscious perfumer set against an intriguing web of murders, mysteries, and political plotting. It was refreshing that the 2 main characters differed from common romance character tropes, and that their relationship builds off of healing past traumas. I loved the world of The White Rat, and want to read more.
