Wow! This is my first ever sci-fi book and I have actually enjoyed it! I haven’t heard of this author but once I saw the cover I was intrigued to know more. I did the Fairyloot read along and it was exciting to see what other people thought of the chapters. There was a lot of action, tense moments, sadness and a lot of laughter. I am hoping that there is a book 2 because finishing where it finish just leaves me with more questions that need answering.
If you aren’t a sci-fi person like myself but you want to try and get into reading sci-fi books I recommend this book! You will get hooked from page one and won’t want to put it down! It’s just an amazing book that I am sad that I have finished it, roll on book two and hopefully it comes soon x

I still really enjoyed this book the second time around, going through all the heartbreaks and sympathy, laughter, tense moments and the meaning of friendships. It’s definitely one of my favourite Sci-fi reads and if you haven’t picked this up yet I definitely recommend it! 😊 x

This book is Very YA and Very 1st person POV. If you don't mind every other sentence starting with 'I' then it's fine, but I didn't enjoy the style. This is the main reason for a 3 and not a 4.

Sanderson captured very well the experience of being a teenager and trying to figure out who you are and what you believe. I think the setting and the characters all work well together and the big reveals are well thought out. However, I think I would still prefer the 'girl and her dragon' version that Sanderson mentioned in an interview talking about this book.

I will say that page 428 was very moving and the reason for the extra half star.

Spensa isn't the kind of character that you love immediately, she's the kind of character that grows on you. And grow on me she did. I also loved M-Bot and Cobb and everyone in her flight class. Can't wait to continue on with the series!

I didn’t remember this book to be so GOOD.
By the end I was TREMBLING in a mix of stress, anxiousness and hope.
I knew what was going to happen and it still kept my eyes glued to the page like I was Spensa 😩😩. Also, the character cast is so good! The team dynamic was so well captured I want to cry.
