This book has a lot of hype surrounding it, and I was in the mood to read a romantic a little bit of smoke. Although that they deliver, it didn’t deliver in a thoroughly entertaining way. The book started off strong until the two main characters began to form a relationship.

The relationship between Ava and Alex. Considering Alex is someone who always shied away from relationships was against relationships. Once he starts to form a relationship with Ava, I was quite surprised that they really didn’t have any hiccoughs or struggled with this new territory. I expected a lot more drama between the two characters as they tried to navigate this new relationship between them.

I feel like the author, set up a bunch of plot points, and then didn’t follow through on them. We would end of chapter with them discussing swimming lessons, I assumed the swimming lessons would be the next chapter, and then it was only mentioned in passing throughout the rest of the book.

The ending was quite obvious, and I was hoping that there would be a little more to it. However, there wasn’t and by the end, I was just rushing through to get it over and done with.

Everyone is telling me the second book in the series is a lot better. So I’m willing to give the next one a try.

The writing was fine but the way the book ends is super gross to me.
Alex literally stalks her, refusing to let her date other people, saying she will always be hers, etc. And she just ends up loving him for that when it’s actually 100% illegal and abusive.

Too much porn, not enough plot. The main dude is an abusive ass and I’m supposed to get hot listening to him? Pass. The main woman is dumb and one of the least complex characters I’ve read in recent memory.

I spent the majority of the book alternating between rolling my eyes and saying “that’s convenient.”

I might change my rating, becuse i dont know what to give it just yet. I liked it alot. There were something about it that made it diffrent then all the other romance books I have read. One thing that i did love about it was the mystery plot alone with it. However there were I felt as tho it was forgot from time to time, like it would foucus on Alex and Ava and the it was back to the mystery part and then all of a sudden you could just conect the dotts. I jsut felt like it could be done a bit more with the book.
There were times were Alex went a bit to far, or was (for me personaly) a bit uncomfortable.  Looking away form that (ignoring all the read flags😅) Alex and Ava were cute togehter and i did like them. I will say that the spicy level shocked me. I knew it was like spicy spicy, but not like that.
There were something about the ending that was like meh.  It kinda annyed me that he literaly pushed her way and then a few montes later he dropped everything and tracked her down. He has a bit of stocker vibes that I'm not super comferable with. Also he just have wayyyyy to much power, which is both dangerous and weird, it becomse a bit much.

In not say that is bad, becuse it is well writen and everything, is just some stuff that i really rember and that I'm stuck with after reading it. Becuse there is a lot that i liked about the book, but i just can rember spesific thing. I did make me cry, which means that it is a good book.

What I'm kinda excited about is how Josh and ALex frinedship will be in the next books.
