UGH so good! More than deserving of all the acclaim. The characters feel like living, breathing people, while also cutting clear strokes about real world issues. Highlights for me were Amma, Yazz, Carole, and Bummi. Less impressed with Shirley, Winsome, and Penelope, though even then, the way they tie into the themes and story is wonderful. Just a fantastic read. The style works so, so well.

Such a fascinating book, beautifully written and covering many important, yet challenging topics. What also stands out is that there are no points or exclamation marks, as well as direct dialogue - luckily I got accustomed to it after 100 pages or so. 
Also massive respect for finding an immaculate way of connecting so many stories and characters ( you’ll get the relationships after a while)!

I generally enjoy books that jump from one perspective to another, and this is no exception. I liked slowly realizing how each of the characters connected with the others. I will admit, however, that some of the narratives ran together, and some narratives were a lot more fleshed out than others. 

The one thing I didn't like flat out was the way trans topics were handled in the book. I thought it was great to read about Morgan's understanding of themselves and their loving long-term relationship. However, the other characters in the book repeated anti-trans talking points almost completely unchallenged. Given the growing anti-trans sentiment in Britain in particular, plus the fact that so few cis people claim to know anyone who is trans or be informed on trans issues, I felt that this was not a responsible way to frame these conversations.

I really loved the way all of the stories linked together!  As I was reading each person's story I was so excitedly looking for Easter eggs from the other stories, to see how they interacted.  Seeing it all come together at the end was satisfying

It took me a while but I finally finished Girl, Woman, Other by Bernardine Evaristo. 

Let me tell you… It was a ride.

It is one of the rare books that lives up to the hype.

I can definitely see why it earned the booker prize for 2019.

This book is made of layers upon layers and stories woven into other stories that in the end create a full picture.

The characters really do seem real and are incredibly well developed.

It spans numerous generations and socioeconomic backgrounds and it is truly diverse, not just in terms of ethnicity, gender identity or sexual orientation but also in terms of points of view.

It brings to the table problematic and controversial topics and opinions but it doesn’t shy away from demonstrating how discriminatory and extremist they can be . It discusses privilege and the many forms it can take and the hardships of immigrants.

One thing I really appreciated, although very hard to read about, was the portrayal of

an abusive wlw relationship

. It is an issue rarely talked about, but it’s a reality for many people so it’s important to bring awareness to that.

On a completely different note, I did not expect so much wlw content in this book. I don't even remember anyone mentioning it, it was a pleasant surprise for me, but I probably would have read it much sooner if i knew haha.
