I live on the cusp of two worlds, trying desperately to fit into one.

Alosa Kalligan, you will always be famous<3 ily.

description

i don’t think this book would be what it is without Alosa as the heroine. she is the book. her wit. her deadpan bluntness. her cunning. her fierceness. her vulnerability. her humanity.

our heroine, Alosa, is the daughter of the infamous pirate king, Kalligan. and the entire book is solely from her POV and luckily she keeps you entertained the entire time. even her inner monologue is severely blunt and unhinged. like she legit has zero qualms about calling you ugly in her inner monologue, and if she dislikes you enough... she’ll tell you you’re ugly too.

and i respected the hell out of it

Despite a slightly predictable plot and lacklustre male lead, the heroine's competence and general badassery makes it an extremely fun read. Definitely worth continuing.

Was this book revolutionary? No. Was it extremely fun to read? Definitely. It was marketed as the pirates of the Caribbean of books and it absolutely delivered, plus it was very refreshing to have a protagonist who has absolutely no moral qualms about brutality killing people. It’s over all a very entertaining and fun book about pirates (which I’ve been obsessed with my whole life) so id definitely recommend it, however as I’ve said, the story isn’t particularly super original or groundbreaking so i can’t really give it a higher rating but I thoroughly enjoyed reading it.

DID NOT FINISH: 22%

Could be a fun read for some but nothing about this was enjoyable for me.

Writing is bad, very much info dumpy. The characters are so one dimensional and not interesting at all. Too many things that didn’t make sense in the plot. Just felt very amateurish, couldn’t get past chapter 5.
