I really enjoyed the eulogies on love contained in this dialogue, especially those from Pausanias and Aristophanes. I didn’t agree with all of the ideas of love presented, but all of the arguments were interesting. The only speaker that kinda lost my interest and support was Eryximachus, who seemed to miss the core of the eulogy to Love in my opinion.

I was not expecting the second half of the book to be as funny as it was. The scenes are comical. Though I must admit I was laughing part with the book part at the book. The constant glazing of Socrates as the most perfect being in every way by virtue of doing philosophy is so over the top and self-conceited that I cannot help but laugh in shock at how this is the foundation of Western philosophy.

Bring back deep but lighthearted chats with your friends and frenemies around a good meal and watered down wine.

Can’t say I was expecting them to discuss mpreg and nonbinary people.

Socrates' speech really was the best part of this. At least, I found it to be the most thought provoking and even the most moving. I have a feeling that I'll enjoy re-reading this, especially with different translations. I also appreciated a lot of the narrative framing that Plato was doing, as well as the humor running throughout. Awesome book!
