I thought the quote on the cover was a little cheesy but nope; this story is a much more serious and mind-twisting version of Mean Girls. It's not one of those feel-good murder mysteries you typically get in YA, it's far more disturbing (for a YA novel at least) and drove me insane with the characters. I disliked them all but still felt a little attached to them? this is how you write mean girls. I wouldn't say I enjoyed this, but I feel like I'm still going to be thinking about it even now. the rating may go up depending on how I feel about it later.

still heartbroken about Natasha, like she had me fooled too. I kept reading for her and not for Becca but that plot twist ruined me. (and yeah, I was satisfied with that ending. girl got what she deserved.) excellent writing; you don't realise Tasha's playing you until you get to her actual chapters where she isn't writing in the diary anymore and then clock that those chapters were unreliable. real fucking smart.
I love the narrative play this book does. I tend to excuse YA books for having a narrative that knows it's telling a story, but with this, it felt nearly real, like I was thrust into this world and the narrative was a tool the author was playing with. love that shit.

my grievances fall on the sexual content of minors, ironic considering this book discusses adult/minor relationships the way it's supposed to. yes, teens have sex, but discussing it the way Natasha did in the diary was enough, I didn't need to imagine the details or (16-year-old) Becca doing it with 19-year-old Aiden 😭 I could also tell how old this book is based on how it's written. I know for a fact the author wouldn't be able to get away with using the d-slur, r-slur and the fatphobia in this the way she did (yes I understand it was to prove a point about the bullying, I'm just saying! know that going in lol).

Wow. I thought the plot was predictable - turns out, it was not.

potential spoilers?
One thing I would've liked to see was more closure at the end of the novel. Even just a short epilogue to clarify things more.
