So, here's the thing. In concept, this should've been a favorite book. In the beginning, I had a tough time getting into the book and understanding what I was reading, but as time went on it all flowed together naturally. I really liked all of the ideas and concepts the author had for the world, its magic system and unique specifics about the landscape, political views and characters. I also really liked the non-chronological timeline, and how the author slowly revealed more and more about the grander scope of things and how the different POV's related to one another. I thought that was very cleverly done!
However, somehow the story and its characters kept feeling distant from me. The characters from the story never ended up feeling like "real" people to me, and it felt to me that not a lot happened in the book, while it actually did.
I am interested enough in all the unique and intriguing ideas the author has for this series, so I will be continuing with it in the future. I hope I end up feeling more connected to it.
