I loved the concept behind this alternative history. As soon as I read the blurb I had to read it. And I generally liked the prose - very poetic and I did find myself entranced when reading this.

I do feel thought that the plot could have been stronger. It meanders and not much happens before wrapping up quickly. It is very French in style. Less concerned with pacing or plotting. It luxuriates in its own slow rhythm and philosophical musings.

Good but could have been better. There's the skeleton of an all-time favourite book of mine in here if only it had a different author. Oh well

Beautiful, the way a a misty peach sunset over a far shore with lights twinkling in the distance, is beautiful.
