I’m sorry but if Liam was the DM of my first D&D game I would never have gone back. I need shenanigans or nothing

Roll for Romance is several things all at once. It's a romance, obviously, and really it's two romances. But it's also a story of self discovery, new friendship, and Dungeons & Dragons. Most of the time, all of these things work well together, and the end result is a cute and fun book that doesn't take itself too seriously. I thought that it blended the DnD story elements into the main narrative well, and the DnD narrative itself was pretty solid on its own. There were a handful of moments of the story that didn't quite mesh for me, but overall, this was a perfectly fun and enjoyable read!

After burning out from her marketing job in New York, Sadie joins her best friend Liam for a summer break in Texas. Determined to bring Sadie out of her funk, Liam includes Sadie in his D&D game. Sadie is immediately captivated by her character Jaylie and her artistic inspiration begins to revitalize. Sadie enjoys making new friends with the other players, especially the extremely charming Noah who is also new in town. When Sadie is offered the opportunity to paint a mural at the bar where Noah works the two get to know each other better. After learning about Noah’s nomad lifestyle Sadie doesn’t think starting anything with Noah would be smart, especially with her eager to get back to the structure she craves. But Noah and Sadie can’t deny the special relationship that is forming both between them and their D&D characters. Will Sadie head back to New York in a matter of weeks? Or will she chose to stay in the small Texas town that has slowly captured her heart doing what she loves?
Once I understood the format of going back and fourth between Sadie’s story and the story of their character’s D&D quest, I very much enjoyed this romance. The characters were supportive and endearing and it also made me want to join a D&D game myself! What fun!

Thanks to Dell Romance for letting me read and review this book early. All thoughts are my own!!
Roll for Romance was a delightfully fun read about Sadie who recently made a big career choice and is living with her best friend for the summer. He invites her to join his campaign where she meets a gaggle of people who become important parts of her life. Following two storylines, one in the real world and one in their fantasy campaign, Sadie meets and grows close to Noah.
I really enjoyed the dual timelines echoing each other as the characters in real life build their friendships and dynamics. I loved Sadie as a character, and I really enjoyed how she and Noah interacted. I loved all of these characters, and I would love to see them again in another book.
I will say that because we’re following two storylines that take up a relatively equal amount of pages, I had a harder time being connected to Sadie and Noah’s romantic relationship. I think I would’ve liked to see more build up of them as friends before they pursued each other romantically. There were so many group scenes and with the whole other storyline, I struggled to believe that they were that into each other.
As the reader, you can tell pretty quickly how the plot is going to resolve. It’s common with city girl/small town guy dynamics. However, I think because I had a harder time believing their chemistry, I also had a harder time believing that Sadie would just uproot her entire life to move and be with a guy. If it was mainly for her best friend, I’d believe it more than her moving for Noah.
I did enjoy reading it, though, and I would definitely read more books about these characters or even just other books from this author!!

This was a great 3 -star read for me.
I absolutely loved that we got the best of both worlds with this book, romance and romantasy! I have never played D&D before, so I was worried this book would not resonate with me, but I was wrong! I found it so easy to read and understand, and fell right into that part of the story. It was such a unique read, and I really enjoyed it! Going back and forth in the story lines was hard because I didn't want either story to end, but I would get sucked right back into the story, so it did not bother me! I also need to mention that the cover is so stunning!
This book was not only one love story, but two! I enjoyed that the story included our main character, Sadie, learning about herself and making platonic friends. Sadie's growth and development was so rewarding to read and really added depth to the story. The side characters were so fun, and their friendships made me happy.
Noah, our main male character, was such a fun, lovable, patient man, so yes, please! Things get a little spicy, so be prepared, but in a good way. This was just the right amount of spice to add to the story. Both storylines were slow burn, but I was here for it!
I would recommend this to anyone looking for a fun romance with a bit of a whimsical fantasy subplot.

I really really enjoyed this story. It was so sweet and cozy. Dealing with themes of friendship, found family, finding yourself and friends to lovers. I absolutely loved the D&D fantasy campaign story within the contemporary romance story. It was such a unique and refreshing way to tell a story. Noah & Sadie are honestly just the cutest. Bonus there is no 3rd act breakup. I would give this 1.5 chili peppers for a spice rating.
This may feel slow of some readers and it is a very sloooooow burn book. But it’s just the sweetest little love story. Perfect for RPG loving gamers!
