Thank you NetGalley for the free e-ARC. This is my honest Review.

Review: 2.5/5; DNF'd ARC at 47.8%

I love the surge of "nerdy romances" especially centered around D&D! I was very much looking forward to this D&D romance, unfortantely I had to DNF.

The premise of the story sounded enticing and loved the idea of two new D&D to connect and fall in love sounded absolutely charming! However, I found the characters quite flat and the timeline jumpy.

Sadie's character I think shows a strong example of what happens when you feel like you've let yourself down and you're not sure where to go. Since "losing" her job she's shuts herself down and feels like a failure. I do find it odd it took until almost halfway through the book for her to finally tell her best friend the truth of the job issue. Someone who picks you up off the floor to help you through your worst times I feel like should get the whole story...

Speaking of, we just straight find ourselves into the story without introductories and if I didn't read the blurb, I'd wonder why the ending pair shouldn't be Sadie and her best friend. It takes awhile for the reader to get any background on all of the characters and how they know each other.

While I love D&D and love the storytelling aspect, this book felt like two separate stories: a D&D game and the actual "IRL" story. It bounces between the campaign and the characters very aburptly and I don't think we actually needed to read the full campaign. Snippets for a "fade-away" aspect into the role-playing was all that was really needed.

I think if there was more time spent on the "IRL" love story of the characters I wouldn't have DNF'd the book. As it stands, I find the characters flat, the storyline too choppy, and not enough focus on the characters' arcs.

This was such a fun combination of real life, and an immersion into a fantasy (D&D) world!

I’m not a D&D player, but I do love tabletop games, and I feel like this is the perfect book for anyone who enjoys hearing about games, nerdy people falling in love, or new people learning to dive into a fantasy world!

Beyond just the game, there’s also a heavy element of finding yourself, and figuring out what brings you joy - behind just the major you chose when you were in your early college years.

A romance, a love story to games, and a strong plot of character development all wrapped up into one - definitely pick this up!

I was provided a complimentary ARC from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for my honest review.

I do not play D&D, but still enjoyed this book. I love the mix of fantasy and romance you get in these types of books, but if you like D&D, I feel like you'd appreciate it even more than me!

The goods:
- On top of the romance and fantasy, I loved Sadie's personal journey with her job throughout the book. I feel like this book is a great combination of fantasy, literary fiction, and romance.
- Some D&D romance books don't fully explain the entire campaign, but I really felt like this campaign was fully explained and we saw every part of it.
- I loved how different Sadie and Noah were. I haven't read and opposites attract type book in my opinion in a while and I enjoyed their dynamic.
- The rest of the D&D group were great side characters that I'd love to see explored more in the future. I would definitely read another book in this universe!

The loss of a star:
- I wish there was a bit more shown of the conclusion romance. I feel like we only saw the very early part of the relationship where I wanted to see a bit more development.

Overall, if you're looking for a romance book that also has a fantasy sub plot, this is a great next read. Also, if you like D&D, you'd probably enjoy it.

Thank you to Lenora Woods and Quercus books to early access for this on NetGalley.

As soon as I saw the book cover for Roll For Romance, I knew I needed this book.

The book has 2 stories at once.
It follows Sadie in her normal life, but also her D&D character, Jaylie, during her first D&D campaign.

I enjoyed having both stories coincide with eachother and how the D&D campaign related to real life, and how her romance showed development in both aspects.

The story has a realistic build up of her relationship with Noah.
But it’s also realistic in her figuring out her personal life. The fight with herself over what she feels she should do, and what she wants to do.

I enjoyed this book and thought it was a fun, but easy read.

I love reading romances set in Texas so I had to have my hands on this one. It was cute! If you’re looking for a low angst, low tension, easy kind of romance, this would fit that bill. There’s not a lot to it and that’s kind of the charm? The plot isn’t heavy and sometimes that’s exactly what you need. I liked seeing Sadie learn what direction she wanted to take and finding the way to get there. Her chemistry with Noah was solid and they were both sweet one each other.

The one thing I struggled with was the multiple D&D/role playing scenes. I felt they kind of took over the story and I wanted more connection and build in the real time story rather than being stuck in the game for maybe 30%? or so of the book.

I liked it enough to read another by this author though. It was a genuine slow burn and the third act didn’t make me want to rage and I appreciate that.

Overall audience notes:
- Contemporary Romance
- Language: mild – moderate
- Romance: 2-3ish open door
- Violence: low

This was such a fun book. I've read quite a few D&D themed books, and they've all been wonderful, but this one takes the cake. I loved the split story between the real lives of the characters and their D&D storyline. It was so engaging and full of mystery and intrigue, and I appreciated the plot of Sadie and her burnout. I feel it's not talked about a lot and I love that she was able to explore her life and what she wanted to do whilst also allowing herself to relax and have fun with D&D with her new friends.

Thank you Dell Romance for the eARC and PRH Audio #PRHAudioPartner for the free audiobook.

This was so fun! I loved the interwoven plots of Sadie and Noah’s real-life romance with the fantasy relationship and adventure of their Dungeons & Dragons characters.

I highly recommend this for romance readers who also enjoy tabletop gaming, nerd culture, and/or a fantasy plot mixed in with their romance.
