This book read shallow to me. Also... adolescent for it to be about supposed adults?
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
This book was fun—from the adorable story to the stunning cover that practically called out to my geeky soul! I loved how immersive the D&D element was. Instead of just watching the characters role-play, the book drops us right into fantasy-style chapters, making it feel like a story within a story. Honestly, if the author ever wanted to go full fantasy, I’d be so on board!
Now, confession time: I’ve never played D&D myself (shocking, I know), but I know plenty of people who love it. Despite my total lack of experience, I had no trouble following along, and I found the gameplay sections to be a fun and unexpected highlight.
As for the romance… it didn’t quite hit for me. Noah and Sadie had their moments, but I never fully felt their chemistry. The banter could have had a bit more spark, and Sadie’s immaturity sometimes made it tough to root for her.
That being said, this book had a little bit of everything: real-life connections, role-playing mischief, and just enough adventure to keep things moving. The way it flipped between everyday life and the D&D campaign was a clever touch, adding depth and plenty of nerdy charm. While I personally found the back-and-forth structure a bit distracting, I can’t deny that the campaign itself was where the author really shined—it was hands down the best part of the book!
If you love cozy rom-coms packed with geeky goodness and don’t mind familiar tropes, this could still be a win for you. While the romance didn’t fully click for me, I’d absolutely recommend it to fellow nerdy romance lovers—especially those who appreciate a well-crafted fantasy twist!

Roll for Romance is an insanely cute contemporary romance with a bit of magic thrown in.
While the contemporary romance itself is a bit formulaic to me, the D&D elements in it definitely added to the entire story. I loved jumping back and forth between real life and the D&D campaign.

At first, I was not vibing completely with this book. While I kinda loved Sadie and her cutesy millenial vibes, I did not like Noah. However, he does grow on you, with humor, and his crush on Sadie that seems obvious to everyone but her.
What is really great about this book though, are the D&D scenes. I found myself picking up the book, and pushing through Sadie's scenes to get to Jaylie.
The ending though, I had really found myself resonating with Sadie. Sometimes changing your mind does feel like a betrayal of yourself.
I really, really hope this author writes more D&D or even dives into fantasy novels because those were my favorite parts, even though they're inspired by D&D world.

I have to say nerd romance is my fave. As a lifelong nerd who loves all things comics, fantasy, and make believe this book made me so happy. I haven’t played DnD but I want to!! Idk how people are able to get adults together consistently every week but this book made me want to play even more. My heart broke for the FMC because I’ve also had bad experiences with work and know it drains you and makes you question your worth. But I loved that she had a soft place to land with her friends, even if it was tough for her to accept help. This book had so much heart and swoon worthy moments. If you enjoyed This Will Be Fun, you will love this book. Highly recommend!

Absolutely LOVED this book. I've read a few DnD romances before but they were more YA, this is definitely more adult! This book was also very timely for me. A bunch of my friends just recently decided we want to learn how to play DnD and our partners were more than ecstatic to teach us! I love how through out the book, we get to see the story of their game. However, sometimes I did skim through it because I was more invested in the actual story. I also wish our sessions were that clearcut on the story. For beginners, it was very flushed out. That could also be because of Liam, the stellar DM. Overall, I really liked this book.

If you want a simple, uncomplicated, no-third-act-breakup romance, then this is for you. The main characters are fun and cute and uncomplicated. The book is fine.
If you're the type of person who finds the details important, you're going to have a tough time with this one. As a details person, I had a tough time getting through this book.

- Every time we were in the D&D world, I was wondering if a character's action was something their player would be deciding and/or explaining to the table, and thus I couldn't get that into those parts of the book.
- Our MMC is a traveler, a nomad, and somehow that is translated directly to a "runner". Sadie worries so often about Noah "running away" from her, but we were never given any evidence he would run away from the relationship. I didn't see how being a person who hasn't settled down in one place would mean this person was afraid of any and all types of commitment. This drove me insane.
- The timeline of events doesn't make sense. I could not keep track of how much time was passing, and with Sadie's job interviews I just kept thinking, "Is this really how fast this would take?"
- We did not need chapter 18. Dare I say, including chapter 18 ruined the book. It stole an emotional gut punch and turned the punch into an emotional gut tap.
In chapter 18, we see Noah's D&D character emotionally struggle over Sadie's character's death and make the decision to bargain with a devil to save Sadie's character's life. Because we got this chapter, it was not at all surprising when a devil showed up to make Noah's character pay the price for his deal. No surprise, no emotional gut punch. We got scenes in the real world of Noah avoiding telling Sadie what happened and that is all we needed to know something was up. We did not need anything else! - After all those pages and words in the D&D world...
we don't flippin' see the big bad defeated!! Sadie's character is knocked unconscious and when she wakes up everyone is like, "Oh yeah, we won, it's fine." If we could get chapter 18, we could get the action of the big bad actually being taken down, no matter if Sadie's character was conscious or not. Unbelievable.
