This was so frickin cute. I came in expecting a romance but it was a compilation of short happenings in the palace. I liked that it was like a little mystery being solved. It reminded me of all the anime I used to watch. It was so comforting and the romance felt so subtle that it was enough for me.

Fun! I fell in love with the anime and am enjoying the source material. The aesthetic and worldbuilding are interesting and I like the budding relationship between the emperor and the raven consort. The supernatural mystery of the week chapters are also fun to read and I look forward to seeing where this goes as the series builds.

Got this because I loved the anime so much, and I’ll definitely be getting the other volumes as they release. I was worried that it would be repetitive to read, but there was actually a good amount of insight to the characters that wasn’t able to be shown in the anime. I have mixed feelings on the prose as sometimes it was rich and others quite dry. That may be a translation issue though, but it wasn’t that distracting. The quality of the story really speaks for itself.

I think I had too high expectations for this book. I thought the Raven was going to be like the equivalent of an assassin in western novels. It's more of she can use magic and goes on Scooby Doo chases of finding perpetrators or why a ghost is in a place it shouldn't be. It has some mystery, but I'm not sure if I'll read the next one or not and thus, putting this on the "maybe" shelf.
That said, it's a pretty fun read. Prose reminds me of an English teacher doing her first light novel. Which isn't bad, it's just a bit too clean.
But read this book if you want a different pace in light novels.
