Travel back to the year… 1099! While I liked the historical context and our characters, there was not much about this story that truly enthralled me. Duncan and Madelyn were a good couple, and I loved how independent and strong Madelyn was, but I wasn’t too excited about them together. There were sweet and funny moments, and also lots of warfare, which was interesting, but it was just okay. Aside from the romance, I really enjoyed Adela’s storyline, as well. I thought the ending was quite abrupt too. 3 stars for this one!

One of my favourite books by this author. Omg, Wolf!
One of my favourite books by this author. Omg, Wolf!
I knew that Julie Garwood is a very loved author, and I was excited for this to be my first book of hers. And it was an absolute joy to read ! From beginning to end, this book had me in love! The story is captivating, the characters all fleshed out and so easy to fall for. It's so funny and soft and fluffy and ugh I love the dynamics between all the characters so much!
I adore Madelyne's interactions with Duncan's siblings and how they changed.
And I LOVED the dynamic Between Madelyne and Duncan with all my heart. They were such a perfect match, dancing around each other slowly. I loved their banter and ther sweet moments, and how observant Duncan was, knowing when to interfere and balance her moods if necessary. So sweet
Duncan stole my heart from the very first scene. "Yet under all the layers of refinement stood the proud warlord, looking as primitive and as fearless as the whispered tales boasted. Before their eyes, The Wolf had been revealed" (That's so hot). Duncan is a grumpy gentle wolf when in love, and I loved reading every minute of it.
I love Madelyne so so much, and I can easily relate to her. Quiet for most of her life, only bc she needed to be to survive; she's so loveable and so so sweet. But she's also has this burning, fiery passion within that scares her, hiding it in fear of being like her brother. But she slowly lets go and omg she is a joy to behold!
She's such a sweet balance between gentle and fragile and innocent (because of how little she has seen of the world), and just fiery and strong and brave; and it all blends seemelessly. She was so well fleshed out, along with her insecurities and fears that could be understood and related to.
I loved how she got everyone wrapped around her finger. She's that lovable that not once does it come off as unlikeable or Mary-sue-like. I'm convinced bc I'm swrapped aroynd her lil finger too!
There's so much that I love about this book and this story, so many amazing moments that I think everyone should read for themselves. But especially the part where Duncan came back for her, at her uncle's? I shed some real tears.
but also "He told me to remember that Odysseus is home" :((( I'm so soft. Duncan was her Odysseus come to life :(
