I’m a Diana Ladris apologist until the day I die. The character development for all my girls, and even the men I HATED in the last book was so good. Started and finished this in one day, could not put it down.

Things just keep getting more and more effed up for the kids in the FAYZ. What I love about these books is that they are intended for teenagers, but they don't pull the punches. Racism, cannibalism, sex, heroism, murder, morality, horror, alcoholism, leadership - it's like Lord of the Flies on steroids. Everything gets explored. The FAYZ world can get pretty bleak -- everytime I think, shit, haven't they been through enough, there's more -- but it's a survival story, and (most of) those crazy kids keep hanging on.
I really hate reading half-finished series, though. Two more books = two more years? Very lame.

Here’s what really stuck with me:
“XXX’s entire body writhed and squirmed.
The side of his head was partly gone. A creature, like some monstrous melding of insect and eel, protruded from XXXX’s shoulder and as they stood there rooted in horror it took a vicious bite of XXXX’s flesh.”
Can we all say “nooooo!”
Yep, this is pretty typical of what happens in “Plague”, a book where insects gestate and eat their human hosts alive or kids die from a strange flu where they literally cough up their guts… sometimes on other people.
Oh, and there’s more tedious undead Drake, annoying Astrid, uncertain Sam, crazy Caine, and a host of red shirts awaiting death. Overall the story is an morbid excuse for grotesque violence against children.
Grant should have stuck to a trilogy. This series is becoming tedious.
