Ananda Devi is the most beautifully poetic writer, she captures completely the voices of Eve and Saad, modern day ill-fated teen lovers, in a poor and rundown part of Mauritius. Stunning – my only caveat is that I would have liked the book to be longer and to hear more of Savita's voice. The translation, by Jeffrey Zuckerman, is remarkable.
