I actually really enjoyed this book? What is this madness? I didn’t predict every single plot point and I was interested in what was happening to such a degree that I the ending made me feel emotions? Wow I did not expect this. I after The Rise of Nine I had just excepted that this wasn’t really for me and I was just in it because I’m a completionist and I’d paid for the books. But this book was so much better than I’d expected going in. It felt like in this book we finally got the down time with the characters that we needed and I managed to form a connection with them. Not everything was always super high stakes so the moments that were actually felt intense and when things started to stray from my expectations I found I couldn’t put this down. This series is finally getting deep and I’m loving it.

I’m still not a fan of the changing of fonts between perspectives. There are much better ways to make it clear who is speaking, that I feel an author with this level of experience should be able to execute. Also the title of one of the novellas (which is written at the front) spoils a major plot point from this book. Seems like an oversight.

Overall this book surprised me in the best possible way. The plot is thickening and i’m so glad I’m here for it. This is my favorite one in the series so far 4.5 stars.
