--- SPOILERS AHEAD ---
I just don't think this is ky type of story.
The only bits I found really interesting were Eli's backstory and we never got to see that developed very much.

I think I had watch a movie about this I would have enjoyed it a lot more than the book.

To me it felt like none of the stories really got resolved well and so it all just felt a bit pointless to me.

I feel like this would have been vetter as 2 seperate books, 1 about Eli and the supernatural and 1 about Oskar and the mudane and both those stories would have been much more enjoyable.

IMPORTANT NOTE: These reviews are all my own opinion and a reflection of my personal tastes and mood at the time of reading, NOT a reflection of the books plot or authors ability.

A haunted fairy tale, perverse, gory, unsightly. The kind writing that is so absolutely sure of where it needs to go and what it needs to say to get there, that it fearlessly leaps into the depths of human depravity with a precision that is baffles and inspires.

Like all good dark fairy tales, there is friendship and love intertwined between the macabre, with a vampire characterization explored with such care that even the same well worn tropes ring unique, like hearing the monster legend for the very first time.

This was bleak and the setting certainly helped set the mood.
At its heart this was a story about outsiders finding somewhere or more accurately someone with whom to belong. It was interesting reading how the relationship between Oskar and Eli developed, when others deteriorated. And while there were many tender moments between characters, each interaction came with an undercurrent of futility or grief. You know it probably won’t end well, but you still hope for the best (with one notable exception anyway).

Not your typical vamp story. Totally great. Wish the movie did it justice :]
