I really enjoyed this three musketeers retelling! Love the friendships and found family aspect of this book. Also enjoyed how the main characters were diverse and that the story was told from the perspective of a girl who lives with a chronic illness. I will say that the plot progressed quite slow but once it got to after the 60% mark it really started to progress and brought more intrigue. Highly recommend the audiobook, it was really great to listen to! Excited to read this author's upcoming books in the future.

This book does an excellent job of filling a gap in media with a great use of research to do so. Additionally, the overall vibes of this book are beautifully immersive. However, I found that the use of French dialogue to set the scene was irritating. It implies that what they’re speaking for the whole rest of the book is actually English or some super secret nth language and just doesn’t make sense. The rest of the vibes of the musketeers and France were great though so I can’t fault this too much. This is done particular well in regards to all of the different views of revolution which I thought were handled well. I also initially felt like the main character came off with a very YA/ fanfiction vibe. While this did improve throughout the book, I never felt like any of the characters really fully came into their own voices. I would have like to see them be more strongly characterised. There are also a few annoying historical inaccuracies that make the feminist discussion around these things feel skin deep. In regards to the plot, it was definitely fun but it never reached a great height. The twists were predictable and I found myself skim reading for a lot of this. Overall, a fun read but nothing amazing.

As someone who is chronically ill, this book helped me. I appreciate that this is a retelling I a famous story, but I found the "mystery" a little predictable. The book is YA and reads that way, but it is charming, adventurous and I wish I'd had it when I was 13.
