Can't seem to understand the hype behind this book series. I haven't encountered such a stupid character since Bridget Jones. Becky is stupid, lying, having massive financial issues yet I'm supposed to like her and root for her? Hell no! Shopaholism is a serious psychic problem that needs to be treated and not celebrated. If this is a role model for young girls these days, then God help us!

This was so goofy from start to finish, the universe was NOT on girlie's side
3.5 Stars. One of the most annoying characters, ever. Saved by the end.
This was a fun and a light read. I have seen the adaptation but don't remeber much. Rebecca was fun but i seriously think she needs real help with her shopaholism, because it seemed to go out of hands. Otherwise, the storyline was fun and a lot of happened. Also the ending was quite predictable, yet the tv show scene not so much. Sometimes it seemed that other characters just wanted to make fun of her idk. Probably won't be contiuning with the series.
Don't spend frivolously! A hard read at first if you're good with your finances. Great ending though!

It was a okay read and a very slow start. Didn’t really pick up until the end. The plot was good but I felt the chapters dragged on and on. It was hard for me to get into the story. Although, I’m sure everyone can relate to having financial trouble and not facing them. All in all, it was a good book!!
In hindsight, reading Confessions of a Shopaholic right after reading Eat, Pray, Love was a mistake on my part. Going from an introspective & deep story to a vapid &superficial one gave me a little whip lash. It was cute though, even though I completely disliked the main character. Between her rationalization to feed her impulses and lying constantly she wasn’t very likeable.
Sometimes we really just need to listen to our own advice! Spoilers ahead....
The materialist in me was stressed beyond belief! Bc although not in debt, how often have I/we thought such similar thoughts to Becky... whether fashion, amazon, furniture, books, etc... it's all the same scarcity mindset that infiltrates us! Though unrealistic & a stroke of luck 🍀 at the end, Rebecca does indeed become a new person. (I'd like a follow up with Fran, thanks Kinsella!) Those thoughts are still there, but she actively rejects them in favour of wise financial decisions. Makes me wonder what other thought patterns need to be intentionally reversed and monitored carefully!
The romance at the end felt gimmicky, though perhaps given the other titles to come in the series, it's more of a set up for the future. But I'd rather it simply been fully devoted to the character study of Rebecca. Overall, the writing & pacing were smooth, with the reader left wanting for little by the conclusion.
