I think Paul Holes is incredibly interesting as an investigator, scientist, and human. I really enjoyed his input on Michelle McNamara's book as well as Evil Has a Name. I did feel this book fell a little flat because of the overlap between what I have read/heard from Paul Holes in other books and podcasts, but I appreciated his insights and the look into his career and personal life in this memoir.

Fascinating insight into this type of work. But, a little too much: " I was a lousy husband, oops!" Not enough: "Here is what I could have done differently, and how I'm working to try to change".

Paul Holes spends an awfully large amount of time talking about cases he failed to or inadvertently solved, which makes the book about an investigator seen a bit odd until the end when all his skills really culminate. He seems more interested in his failures than his successes, which makes sense given his obsessiveness on solving things.
It does a great job talking about the toll these things have both on the lives of investigators and victims, and it’s just really funny that he doesn’t know what Ratatouille is.
