Super interesting, super intense. Only recommend for true crime fans that aren’t too squeamish. I found myself shuddering at some of the descriptions, but I couldn’t put it down.

I am a HUGE true crime buff; whether it is podcasts, documentaries and now audiobooks!
Unmasked: My Life Solving America's Cold Cases, is a true story told by Detective Paul Holes.
The story follows Criminal Investigator, Paul Holes, who is the detective who worked on the Golden State Killer - who then turned into the night stalker case for twenty two years
The book shows readers the risk, as well as the reward of working within law enforcement.
The story follows, Paul in his different positions within law enforcement, and the cold cases from day one which became his decision to take on. Throughout, the book he is honest about the crime scenes he has worked on, the circumstances, the victims.
The most interesting thing I found in this novel, was that his job weighed so much on his personal life, that he was unable to not detach from work. There was information surrounding the family issues, his divorce and marriage, alcoholism, and panic attacks which were triggered by the cases he worked on.
Overall, I throughly enjoyed this memoir.

I enjoyed this book, wish it could have been longer. It's interesting to understand how some of the processes have changed over the years, and frustrating to hear how individual people, who are supposed to be on your side, could block the progression of cases, when they clearly don't understand how things work. I hope with more people like Paul, more of the older solvable cases will be solved.
