A well written short story with one flaw - after you finish it you will want for more.

Nice short story. Set in His Dark Materials universe but doesn't further the story, so it's a good stand alone too. Easy to read in a day if you wanted to!

The illustrations for this are wonderful. The story, which is a tight mystery, is good, but seems inconsequential to the larger His Dark Materials universe. I don't generally care that every story in a large series has to contribute X number of components to the whole, but compared to the other short stories Pullman wrote within the HDM world, this was the least compelling. That said, it's short (just under 70 pages) and fun, so not much to really complain about.

eerie and great short story and world building for the His Dark Materials series. I'm so so looking forward to the final Book of Dust, so this was a wonderful dark small story. The illustrations as well added to the atmosphere and made it all just delightfully creepy - another win for Philip pullman!!
