An interesting concept can really go far with me but it wasn’t enough this time, unfortunately.

Great story but it felt a lot like other fantasy novels. Maybe there’s not anything new under the sun anymore.

The last 200 pages really sucked me in the stories. Before that it was interesting, but dragged a bit.

A very different, quite interesting outlook on dragon fantasy (I read it was steampunk because it also mixes in elements of technology?) where rather than friends or predators they are exploited for their blood’s magical properties.
Writing was a bit disjointed at time with too many pov switches at crucial moments, and there was either too many combat scenes or they were way too detailed, I enjoyed them but after a few I was ready to move on.

This book is potentially great but even though towards the second half I got quite hooked and I was liking it a lot I still think it might have been too long. Especially at the beginning it's a bit slow and the very long chapters and disconnected POVs don't help in making it flow. After a while I got into it and enjoyed it. Overall there is a lot of interesting stuff, though I must say that I didn't get the reason behind Hilemore's chapters. In my opinion they were the least interesting and did not contribute too much to the rest of the story.
The writing is a bit hard to get through, especially at the start. It's beautiful and I like the way the sentences are structured but sometimes there are unusual terms which seem to be there just to make things more complicated, especially as English is not my first language. That being said after getting used to the style it became easier to follow along and I enjoyed it more.
I am quite curious on how it will continue and will probably pick up the next one soon (though I'm a bit intimidated as it seems as long as the first one).
