It is very clear that Mrs.Johnson does VERY THROUGH research when writing historical fiction and are we not truly thankful for that?

Again, I am stunned. ‘Yellow Wife’ made me a fan but ‘The House of Eve’ has made me a Stan 😩. This story was beautiful, but heartbreaking. I felt for Eleanor but Ruby, I wanted to embrace her in a way her mother couldn’t.

This has been my best read so far this year. Can’t wait for what Mrs.Johnson has in store for us next…

I ate this book tf up. It was so interesting to me. I was hooked from start to finish, I wanted to know how Eleanor and Ruby would affect each other so badly and the twists and turn along the way kept me on the edge of my seat.

I didn’t read the blurb so I really had no clue what to expect which I think helped in the intrigue of the story.

I loved that we saw background on the characters as this helped them to feel whole. I was able to truly empathize and understand their decisions (even if I didn’t agree with them).

I would 100% recommend that you read the authors note cause when you do you’re going to want to cry for all the women this novel was inspired by.

This book could be highly triggering for some though, so check those out.

I wanted to like this book so much more than I did. I kept waiting for the two main characters’ lives to intersect
much earlier on than they do, and in a more impactful way than they do
. I had hopes that Eleanor would grow to want to learn more about “The House of Eve” and how she could better help the women who lived there. But alas, that is a modern day wish for a 1950s society when segregation was prevalent and races rarely mixed. Despite what I had hoped the story would become, it was an enjoyable read. I ended up buying a copy because my library hold ended two days earlier than the pace of my reading would allow me to finish by. So that speaks to wanting to keep reading so I could learn more about the characters. Overall, there is good character development and a consistent parallel storyline to follow.
