started out as a 4 to 4 1/2 star read then it went downhill. midway it felt like it was a story about a husband and wife trying to work out their differences. I feel that everything was resolved in the last 20 pgs. I just got super aggravated and bored. As well, I feel like one of the main focus points in this book was BDSM which isn't really my cup of tea. In the beginning, it was fine but then by the end I feel like all they did or even thought out about BDSM and sex.

Definitely a steamy & spicy read

Thanks netgalley for a free read in exchange for a review. F-bomb fantastic! Sev is my new book boyfriend, what a hottie. Not only is he tattooed but he is Russian and seriously dominant. Nothing like a alpha male to make your Tuesday afternoon fly by. This book is well written, and the story premise is one of my favorites. I think the Russian language is one of the most beautiful sounding languages that can be spoken by a man. He doesn't mix words either....what he says he means. Nat was a unique character as well, together they had explosive chemistry. I couldn't put this book down, and I read it straight through. This is also one of my favorite authors, she has no problems writing about hot alpha males. Definitely will be one of my favorites. Overall entertainment is five stars.

"If you run from me again, I will catch you. It's what I do."

A book about BDSM, a Siberian beast of a man, and the Russian mafyia ; sounds like a win-win situation, amiright? I honestly never paid this book that much attention when it previously published in three parts. It wasn't until my friend Stephanie at No BS Book Reviews started reading it and had nothing but wonderful things to say about it. As per usual, she was right. The Professional was filthy, funny, and action packed!

"Insight: if a guy I had sex with ever carved a notch into his bedpost, I'd tell him to carve one into mine too–and then to go make me a fucking sammich."

Quite a few of my friends have been trying to get me to jump on the Kresley Cole train and after reading this I can see the appeal. I have only read her YA series, The Arcana Chronicles, and considering the "tamed" sexuality in that story is pretty hot and heavy, I was looking forward to her more adult writing. All I have to say is that she can write a pretty mean sex scene. O.M.G. There were a few that definitely left a blush on my cheeks and I find that to be pretty surprising with the amount of erotica I read a month. It also didn't hurt that the hero is a 6ft+ huge Siberian enforcer with a penchant for rough sex. If you are unawares, I have a thing for Russia. Men, history, culture, etc. I also have a thing for the mob. Literally, this book is like a dream come true for my hormonal, hot mess, fantasies. But it wasn't perfect.

"I'll consider myself lucky, my elusive girl, once you consider yourself taken. Every man has a weakness, you are mine. I've accepted that. Now you must accept me."

Don't get me wrong, I loved the heroine Natalie. Not only was she really funny but she had brains on her too. My problem lies with the fact that she was a 24 year old virgin. It's not that I don't believe that there aren't 24 year old virgins out there, but I'm so tired of that being a character trait. Like the sex and tension between Sevastyan and Natalie could be tainted if she wasn't pure. Again, this is just a minor detail and it's not like Natalie was a fumbling or inexperience virgin, but I just wasn't a fan of this being part of the story. I also had a slight issue with how Sevastyan kept pushing Natalie away. It wasn't a big deal but I, again, wasn't a fan of that plot point. So although there were a few issues that prevented this from having a perfect rating, it was still a very enjoyable and sexy book! Seriously, if you are looking for some heat and some laughs, The Professional is worth checking out!

4 stars*

Very hot but this was one of the stupidest books I have ever read.

11/11/2022 Second Read Thru: I think I probably enjoyed this even more the second time, because now I actually appreciate and like BDSM where before I was not a fan...and every "problem" I had rereading this review didn't bother me the second time...probably been reading too much dark romance since the last time I read this hahahaha

Fool around with an enforcer, and you’ll catch forever.

Kresley Cole has been one of my favorite long time authors, I love her Immortals series.  This was the first time I've read a contemporary book from her.

Holy hell the steam in this is unreal.

I won't lie, BDSM isn't really my kink but I can appreciate it as kink and steam.

As I gazed up at him and sucked his thumb, his eyes darkened with possession. Deep. Brutal. Never-ending. He regarded me like I was a trapped thing, already his to enjoy. Never-ending. Never-ending. Never-ending. Dear God, what had I done?

Her dad is amazing.  I wish he would have had a bigger role in the book.

I did enjoy that this guy was super mafia, not just mafia light like a lot of mafia books I've read.  He was a freaking enforcer. Their relationship did piss me off at times, he was definitely a handful.

“So give me the details then! Tell me all about your gangster rumspringa.”

Overall I enjoyed the book but I wasn't a huge fan of the ending. Probably one of the hotter books I've read, but I do enjoy a tortured bad boy.

*Spoilers* I wish that there had been a bit longer with things good between them.  It came at like 90% of the book, which is always a bit frustrating to see. Also I couldn't believe the bondage sex scene they had at the end when he was clearly super pissed off.  It just seemed kind of icky and predatory to me. The emotional stuff after was good, but idk I just found myself cringing reading it because of the emotions that were happening at the time.
