usually i love winterson, but this was not my cup of tea.
A lot of poetic vignettes (and a number of not so poetic ones), some lovely and lyrical, some interesting rather than beautiful, which unfortunately don't convincingly come together as the cohesive text that this book purports to be.

A larger than life heroine, literally! Dancing princesses, philosophies on love and england discovers the banana. Sexy and eccentric, i loved this book.
"I don't know if other worlds exist in space or time. Perhaps this is the only one and the rest is rich imaginings. Either way it doesn't matter. We have to protect both possibilities. They seem to be interdependent"
What on earth have I just read? I've no idea, really. I really enjoyed parts of this - the fairytale and myth interludes - and particular characters, like the Dog Woman, but I struggled with the interlinking narratives and the crossover meanings between sections. I think this might need a certain level of concentration I didn't have within me at the moment or is best served by rereading. Either way, I will probably have to give it another shot to cement my opinion, but it's not currently one of my favourites from Winterson.
It was delightfully random and abstract. Nice few deep thoughts about how we choose to live our life, time and space... I really liked the transformation to more modern ending.
