An easy to access retelling of the true story of the so-called Radium Girls, women who worked in a watch factory, painting the numbers on watch dials. The only problem was the paint, which was special because it glowed, contained radium, which caused multiple health issues, and resulted in death for many of the workers. There is a full-length nonfiction book about this that I want to read at some point, but this was a great introduction to the story. My one complaint was the way the author/artist drew the characters' faces - it just was not my favorite style, although the story itself was first rate.

It was trippy to read a dialogue-only story about Americans in New Jersey in French, but we Anglophones do that all the time to stories in other countries without thinking twice. It’s a devastating story, told almost breezily thanks to the fast pacing, but with meaning. Art wise, my favorite panels were the most heavily stylized, art deco inspired ones.

Glad I picked this one up. I know the basics of the story of the Radium Girls, and love learning more about the stories in US history that we didn't focus on in school.
