3.5. This was fun and unique but it was a bit confusing. I had to go back and reread sections to understand some of the jumping around

I did not see the ending of this book coming until the last page. An interesting mix of suspense/mystery mixed in with a conversation about diversity and micro aggressions in corporate America for POC individuals. It was  slower read but really well done and engaging

I'm not sure how to rate this. I liked the story! I kept reading till the end. I wanted to know how it ends. I want to read more work by Zakiya BUT ... there were so many little things that scream "where is the editor?" from things that needed to get re-ordered or re-written or cut or expanded to simple tiny typos (started instead of startled for example, how silly or terrible is this?). How lazy was this editor?

This was cool! Surprised me at a few key points, especially when this very realistic book introduces some small science fiction elements half way through. While this normally would kind of bug me, I found this book fun and the weirdness helped keep the energy high and solve some of the problems posed by the plot. I saw this compared to the Devil Wears Prada, which seems apt, with maybe a sprinkle of Get Out. Would read more by this author.

Incredible! This book kept me so engaged all the way through and I did not expect the plot twist at the end. This book is hard to forget and is on my list to re-read as well.
