Set an a time where Christianity is spreading, true love finds you in the end and God is everything.

This book has haunted me from the second I picked it up. It is absolutely wonderfully written, which happens to be the reason I liked it and the reason I hated it. Miss Mariller captures your heart with her characters and makes you love something about all of them only to put them through the most hellish trials I've ever read in a novel. It was a lengthy book and had a lot of history but I loved every second of it.

My only fault with this book is the rape scene. I've read in other reviews that it was necessary for the plot development. I would politely beg to differ and say that it is never necessary. It was so graphic that I was almost in physical pain from the tension in my body from reading it, not to mention the tears. Sorcha and her brothers went through enough pain, loss, and suffering that I felt the rape pushed this almost to "put the book down and never pick it back up" territory.

Aside from that, I loved the book. The ending was bitter sweet, which I felt only fitting for a family who had withstood so much hurt; some things cannot be forgotten.

4.5 stars. Finished it yesterday and bought it today. A wonderful retelling of Grim's fairytale Six Brothers. It is always wonderful when you find a novel you like a lot.

Revisiting as an adult and the age gap is weird
