Fantastically brilliant novel! If I played football, I'd rate it 6 stars of 5.

Thank you Rachel Kadish. Superb work. Plus, you offer a suggested menu for a bookclub, AND plenty of vego/vegan options!

The book is superbly written, many memorable passages. Held the intricacies together well and brought the story to a finish that was not of Hollywood thank heavens yet gratifying in some measure.

Just loved it - Took 3 and a bit days to read, possibly 200,000 words but a great journey.

I enjoyed learning about a particular time in Jewish history, but I had trouble with the author's writing style and felt the book was a bit long and drawn out.

Fascinating book. I loved the character development and the way the writer seamlessly blended the 2 story likes

DNF at part 1. It may be a case of the wrong book, wrong time. This just did not work for me.

3.5 stars. It felt overly long -- I checked the "time remaining" line at the bottom of the Kindle page far too many times.

Parts were interesting but it was a chore to get through. Not my favorite.

If you’re drawn to novels featuring strong women, history, philosophy, and a bit of religion, this is the book for you. The characters jump off the page and come to life in a way that makes them as familiar as friends. It’s a book to savour.

Two timelines-1667 and 2000 with interesting characters in each. The only thing keeping me from giving is ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️—several storylines felt unnecessary. For example, I cannot figure out why there was a need to include Isaac, Ester’s brother. Other storylines felt incomplete. For example, what happened to Rifka? Lots of time with her throughout the storyline, then she moves into the big house and poof! she’s gone. Have to be committed to read this book at 560 pages.

so there were parts of this that were very compelling however it could be edited down 100 pages. also not knowing who these philosophers etc were in real life took away from the story. a bit of background there would have been helpful.
