This is one of my favorite books! It's definitely not something you want to check out if gore turns you off, but for my curious thirteen-year-old self it was absolutely perfect. Follow the protagonist Will Henry and his Doctor Pellinore Warthrop as they track down a group of monsters and really just exist as the most flawed duo I have ever seen. Think Holmes and Watson, but Watson's son. And if Holmes never found
drugs
. I'm not sure if that's a spoiler or trigger but I'll cover it just in case. If you're looking for LGBTQ+, female, or racial minority representation you unfortunately won't find any here, as it seems all the characters are men from New England. I believe this book is classified as YA, but the style feels very gothic to me, in the same vein as a lot of 'dark academia' books like Shelley's Frankenstein or Edgar Allan Poe's works in general.

I love this book! Its entire series is lovely, but this really started my gothic horror obsession. The prose is very elegant, and by the end of the series it only gets better. The characters are so layered, it's awesome. Read it if you're interested in such subjects! But if not, I don't think it'll really appeal to you so much as it did to me.
