bro this book is like a rollercoaster of emotions. It revolves around food which i really appreiciate. michelles relationship with her mom in her teen years and the depression she talked about was also rly relatable. I def shed a few tears when it happened :( the only reason i dint give this book a full 5 stars is because i just wish i could have connected with it a lot more even though it was really reflective at the begining and made me think abt my experiences like that she has, towards the end i dint feel as connected but i still of course felt really emotional. Theres just something i cant put my finger on BUT OVERALL PLS READ THIS ITS RLY FUCKING GOOD I JUST HAVE EMOTION PROBLEMS AS U CAN SEE.

easily the saddest book I've read in a while. However, its so inspiring in how she reconnects to her korean roots and that connection she has with her mother. Brutally honest.

DNF a little under the 50% mark

I didn't stop this book because there was anything wrong with the book. The writing is visceral and powerful as is the story. I'm just not mentally in a place to read it.

I read this book really fast, perhaps too fast but I just couldn't help myself.

Michelle Zauner tells us the story of her mother, their relationship, her fight, and eventual loss, to cancer. It's a gripping story that is hard to read but even harder to not read. Zauner is honest about her relationship with her mom, their flaws, their fights, their deep love for each other. There are some really difficult parts to read regarding death, medical procedures, illness, and depression.

I loved the deep dive into food, many of which I am not fully familiar with, but which felt warm and cozy and actually had me craving warm soup as I read.

There are parts that are slightly repetitive or completely separate to the main story of her mom but it didn't deter me from wanting to keep reading.

Overall I'd recommend this memoir with a steaming cup of the most heartwarming soup you can find.
