I think the illusion broke for me with this story. Everything was so shallow/convenient. Traveling across the country? oh it takes 1 page. Item needed to advance the plot? it was right here the whole time. Moral complexity of literally any kind? nope turns out they were evil all along so it never mattered. I'm glossing over major points to avoid spoilers, but it added up to a terrible story for me.
slow-paced

DID NOT FINISH: 3%

So boring. Stuff already not making sense. The writing style is so YA, not bad but disappointing for what seems like an interesting book taking bits from different cultures.

3.0/5.0

Shannon is really good at describing the environment and the dragons. Both of these elements where the most enjoyable parts for me. World building was solid, characters are enjoyable. But it…. Ended so quickly. It’s a very thick book and feel like we work all the way up to this climax and it took like… 6 pages maybe? Was disappointed in the pacing of it, although the ending was solid and she did surprise me in a few places.

first of all, i love how shannon build the world and the introduction is worth of appreciation. i love how the females' lores and the mythologies intertwined. but it's such a slow... slow... slow pace in my most reading time but later everything was so rushed in the last minute. there are few points need to be done with much proper plots including tané and that nameless one? yeah. but i really like the character-driven here.
