I liked this book in a "So bad it's good" kind of way. Cheesy? Without a doubt. Campy? Unabashedly. Far-fetched, even for Star Wars? You freakin' betcha. And yet, all the absurdity is sort of what made it fun. This book seemed to be written in the spirit of just about every Star Wars movie ever made: There are some glaringly obvious problems, but you're having such a good time it's hard to care.

All that said, I definitely enjoyed seeing more of Han and Leia's love story, even if this book isn't considered canon anymore. If we were ever graced with a newer, better-written story about Han and Leia, I would be all over it. In the meantime, I'll satisfy myself with this and be grateful that a Fabio-esque alien is no longer a canon love-interest to Leia.

I've seen a lot of reviews comparing this book to fan fiction. I think that's really doing an injustice to authors of fan fiction.

Okay. So the review on The Book Smugglers does this book a lot more justice than I ever could. I know that this book is just silliness and I expected that. What really dragged this book down was Luke. I ended up skimming his chapters or skipping them all together. Gone is the whiny teenager of A New Hope or even the serious but likable jedi in Return of the Jedi. Luke, in this book, is now a quasi-buddha who floats in the air with the power of the force. It just made me roll me eyes so much that it hurt.

I started this book for the Hapes matriarchs and the Nightsister witches, but I finished because it's just an absolute blast to read! Way fun

This book was a great combination of Force philosophy and romantic drama with a great touch of humor from Han and Threepio. About 70 pages in I decided to pull out my highlighter and save passages for later perusal.

That said, I don't necessarily recommend it for Leia fans, because even though she never sheds a tear in the films, she weeps frequently throughout the book and seems flighty and indecisive due to her constant flip-flopping between Han and Isolder—traits I would never usually ascribe to her. I think this is a result of the author's choice to never settle into her narrative voice, and instead choosing even Isolder's POV over Leia's.

Cute but so out of character.
I can't believe Han would do all that and Leia would take it.
Also Luke felt so unnecesary. He should've taken a step back in this one.
Liked Isolder tho.

All in all, it should've been a silly romcom and just that.

Unique. This book does a great job at capturing my attention by telling an interesting story that is different from all other star wars novels. My favorite parts about this book though, was how Han and Leia were characterized. Han's nervousness and love for Leia was portrayed perfectly, I can see Han doing everything he did in this book. Leia too reacted to all of Hans ridiculous antics by of course acting as if she doesn't even like him. But because there is another love-interest introduced in this novel that poses a legitimate threat to Han, he almost loses it! The planet Dathomir is very interesting and plays a big role in the future and past of the starwars universe.
