I have loved this book since I was 13, and finishing it today made me feel so happy in my heart. The love story of Agnes and David as the background to David’s growth as an adult is such a master fully crafted structure for this story. The characters are delightful, Dickens is hilarious, and the humanity and self-awareness (for the most part) of David as the narrator are all reasons I will return to this book again and again in my life.

Really enjoyed this - much funnier than I was expecting (after the misery of the first 250 pages or so) and great characters. Only read it to prepare for Barbara Kingsolver's Demon Copperhead and am very glad I did. Will re-read one day.
