I really liked the characters especially David and the peggotys.
Having said that the book would do good with 300 less pages (my opinion)

Best line that has ever been written:
The mother who lay in the grave, was the mother of my infancy; the litte creature in her arms, was myself, as i had once been, hushed for ever on her bosom.
emotional funny hopeful sad slow-paced

This book was surprising in the fact that it actually made me laugh, and... pretty sad as well at times. There are a plethora of emotions that, along with many of the events, are written in a way that would be hard for any other author to duplicate. It's length definitely makes it a challenge, but well worth it.

The first chapter or two is bordering on painfulLy slow. But it picks up from there and all in all is a fantastic read.

I hate to say it but this book needed an editor. For me parts of it were brilliant. Others not so much.

So a kid is born with a caul (I had to look that one up), and then he lives his life. The end. Interesting characters. But that's why you read Dickens, isn't it?

Update - Dec 2020: I just finished listening to this audiobook that I first read some 33 years ago. This is a great book. Lots of interesting characters. The audiobook was read by Richard Armitage who played one of the dwarves that ran in single file throughout the Hobbit movies. His acting goes far beyond his ability to run in a line. He really brings the characters to life with his voicing. He also demonstrates the beauty of the language used by Dickens. I am upping this from 3 to 5 stars.

Do yourself a favor and listen to the audible version narrated by Richard Armitage. It makes this book. It’s unparalleled. This book is also awesome and I loved it.
