“Accord of Mars” features a Earth-Mars conflict told from a Martian perspective. Two Martian perspectives, father and son, to be precise, and here is where the first problem of the novel lies. There are two 1st person narrators in this book, Nicholas Stein and his son, Thomas Stein. And they “sound” exactly the same. Normally I love 1st person narrators but both of them here fell flat for me. It would have been so interesting to flesh out their individual “voice” and there was so much potential for that that was just wasted.

There wasn’t much suspense in the novel, I was completely disengaged from the plot and characters for most of the book. There are some generic space battles but the author just didn’t make me feel like anything was really at stake.

I don’t think I would have finished the book if it hadn’t been so short.
