I loved this book! It’s written in an interesting way without too many extra details. I had never heard of this man before and I know my kids will love this books too.

Another great book for teaching, in a simple manner, the father of microbiology. Microbiology is a favorite study of mine. This book could help those in Elementary discover a spark for learning and an outlet for their curiosity.

I remember van Leeuwenhoek being mentioned briefly in science class but this was a nice detailed account of his life, work, and legacy with cutely stylized but still meticulous and informative illustrations...
van Leeuwenhoek clearly had a lot of dedication and the Royal Society treated him with contempt at first because he didn't have the traditional formal education of a natural philosopher or whatever they were called at the time...

This book is so well done; I understand why it was a Sibert Honor book. As a science teacher, I had mentioned van Leeuwenhoek, and had students do reports on him, but I felt this did a much better job of examining his personality and the factors that led to his success. To think that in those times, he lived to be 90! The information is well documented; I even looked up Hooke's Micrographia and found many of the mentioned illustrations here. https://www.bl.uk/collection-items/micrographia-by-robert-hooke-1665

I found this on the library's website, and listened to it. It was short, but so interesting, learning about early microscopes, science, and the birth of Microbiology.
