Not as good as “Paris” but still a meticulously woven tale. Main gripe was an awful chapter of men-writing-women that was a distraction.

NEW YORK by Edward Rutherfurd
If you’re a history buff, you’ll enjoy this all encompassing journey through the history of New York; starting in 1664 (in the territory of New Amsterdam) to present day 2009.
Through the eyes and experiences of several interconnected families (and their acquaintances) you are witness to historic and tragic events, changing landscapes, the rise of skyscrapers, the building of landmarks, and the burgeoning multicultural communities of New York.
Despite the 800+ pages, this was a relatively easy read. With steady pacing and interesting characters (each with an engaging storyline), I was transported through time and immersed in the lives of the various families.
This is my first book by Rutherford and I wasn’t disappointed. I look forward to reading his other books (Paris and London) on my TBR shelf soon!
Rating: 4.5/5 ⭐️
