Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC ❤️❤️❤️
I’ve had a good time reading this one. I think that you really need to have a lot of experience with Korean media and a little experience with the language to understand the romanization of Hangul. It’s something that kind of gets touched on in the authors note: that this is a love letter to her culture, but it really is an important detail to note. I think a glossary of words, for some Korean words used would be helpful for those who may just be picking up the book because they like folklore and maybe have SOME exposure to the 9 tailed fox mythology.
As for the story itself, it’s pretty fun! A mythology/folklore story with romance and mystery is right up my alley! I think it’s hilarious how spunky the FMC is towards the MMC. There’s so much passion there. At times it felt fast paced with the romance and other times (towards the end) it was a little more slow and drawn out. But overall, very enjoyable. Also can we talk about how stunning the cover is!?! I’m going to purchase the physical for sure!

There was more romance than I was expecting, and sometimes that took away from the plot (somewhere comedically). Despite that, I rather enjoyed this and thought the world building fit with the story.
Thank you, NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group, for a copy of this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This was my first Sophie Kim book and first introduction to the world of Korean fantasy/K Drama. I will not hesitate on any of Kim's books!
It took a few chapters to get into; mostly because I spent a large amount of time learning pronunciations and English translations (first real introduction to Korean mythology). After finally getting a comfortable pace going, I absolutely fell in love with Seokga and Hani. I would love to have this turn into a series!
The writing is fast-paced and descriptive. After reading heavy horror/thrillers, this was the most perfect amount of romance and suspense to keep me both interested and feeding the thriller junkie in me.
Learning about Korean mythology was an absolute plus. I can not recommend this book enough!

This was so good and funny! The trickster god being played like a fool was hilarious. Not only do you have a serial killer on the loose, but she is also hiding in plain sight and making the person who is hunting her down look like an idiot. Kim Hani is one of the best female FMCs I have read in a while. She is witty, strong, and confident in who she is, but she also has a big heart.
Seokga is a hard pill to swallow at first, but he eventually grows on you. His character is intense and significant. He doesn’t deserve happiness after the stunts he pulled on his brother, and he knows that, but Kim doesn’t care. She is always trying to find the best in everybody, even if they are an investigator whose job is to find her and kill her.

What in the Kdrama did I just read? This was a fantastic read, and I can't wait to see how the rest of the story goes! Also, coffee is life.

I loved the mix of kdrama and mythology. It was so interesting getting immersed into a cultures mythology that I previously didn't know much about. I can't wait to see what the trickster God gets into next.
