I really doubt that Jules Verne is a good writer. If I wanted to read scientific notes on different weather phenomena, animal species and geographical history, I would have read Wikipedia. I didn't find the story particularly fascinating, some parts of it were awfully didactic (especially the bits with Robert and his "learning to become a real man", that was really lame). I was hoping to find the characters charming and likeable (as they are presented in fanfiction about this book) but that was not the case.

Lord Glenarvan is the owner of the yacht '' The Duncan '', during a test trip where the course set for Glasgow, the second fetch a bottle containing a distress message. It comes from Captain Grant and two of his sailors who were shipwrecked in 1862 with their skipper '' the Britannia ''. After having determined the geographic coordinates of the incident on the damaged message, Lord and Lady Glenarvan, accompanied by Cdt Mangles and his second Austin, decide to go in search of the "Britannia" and his survivors. They take on their journey the two children of Grant, Mary and Robert. This magnificent novel, presented in two volumes is one of the most famous which was born under the pen of Jules Verne, it offers us a pleasant journey across several oceans and continents. It is one of his most beautiful, extraordinary adventures.
