3 stars-

Hate to give an Agatha Christie such a low rating! The pacing in this one didn’t really work for me. I appreciated her attempt at trying to really develop the characters before the main mystery plot, but it also meant that I knew exactly what happened the whole time. I’ve never guessed a Christie twist before (and I don’t try to!) but this one felt pretty obvious to me.

Obviously her prose is as lovely as ever and Poirot is a delight. Just a weaker story of hers in my opinion!

Of all the Christie novels I’ve read, this one was by far the easiest to solve in my opinion. There is a moment at the very beginning that made me suspect the twist the entire time and as it turns out I solved it even before Poirot himself. Thanks litte grey cells :)

Well, I’ve only read one other Agatha Christie book, Murder on the Orient Express, which I liked.

I couldn’t get into this one as much. I didn’t like any of the characters except for Poirot, the plot was a bit predictable and had a soap-opera like love triangle (and the end - what?). Being set in Egypt, it was hard to see past the pretty blatant racism/classism. I know this is in a lot of her books from this time period but still.

All of these factors led me to not like it much, though I will say in true Agatha Christie fashion it was suspenseful and a quick page-turner.
